Content vs. cables?!?!?!? WTF!??!?!
..
.. 2. Isn't this the sort of thing we'll be seeing a lot more of without net neutrality?

3. I agree, what a stupid business model: extortion. Can't they just sell ads like every other video site on the Internet?

4. I'm on Verizon DSL and ESPN 360 videos work just fine. I'll have to check out that wiki and ask my brother who works for Time Warner.

5. The wiki page is right. It's my code (as in I wrote it) that controls whether you have access. Time Warner doesn't have a deal, but if it used to work, I can contact some former co-workers to track down the issue.
As for the business model, while I don't like it, it's not extortion. They paid for the rights to the broadcast. The schools shouldn't have sold it to them if they felt it wasn't in the best interest of the fans.
It's the same model that has made ESPN a success on the cable side (subscriber fees, baby!). This is an attempt to recreate that model on the Internet. I don't think it will work, as I'd rather see better a la carte offerings as I detailed on my blog: http://www.fatmixx.com/2007/05/10/living-without-cable-in-an-internet-world/

7. I've been watching this play out for the last year and it is such a joke that the end users get the shaft like this.
Last year, you couldn't get ESPNU (which ESPN convientely put some heavily desired rival games on)....so now, starting 8/1/07...we get it added. However, no ESPN has done the old switcheroo again, this time playing the card with ESPN360 (which TWC doesn't carry).
Next year, we will probably get a chance to get 360, but I'm sure ESPN will in turn create ESPN740, pulling a little more $ from us.
Or I could try to get the NFL Network, but that is another TWC story.
I guess I'll start by cancelling my ESPN the Mag subscription and my ESPN Insider script too. That should start saving me up for the time I have to pay more to watch more.

1. It's ESPN blocking the ISP's that aren't partnered up with them, and it's one of the stupidest business models I've ever seen. Check out the Wikipedia page for a litle more background
