My Netscape rocks
Dave Winer corrects them, reminding them that My Netscape was the original customizable, RSS page. Don Loeb confirms, as does Susan Mernit. I'm so happy there are folks who will step in when the digg/Web 2.0/blog mob starts attacking people.

(Page 1 of 1)2. Am I missing something? Where is the innovation? MyNetscape doesn't have one feature that sets it apart from any other site with ajax. I hope they don't intend on competing with the likes of Yahoo, Google Homepage, Live, or even Netvibes. Sure Netscape may have done it first but this isn't 1999. Saying Netscape was the originator does not excuse it from just rehashing the same old thing.
Jason you realy need to take the blinders off. If you weren't being so biased you'd realize that in any other situation you'd rip them a new one. If it had been Microsoft you would have responded with a big yawn.
I actually thought about blogging the change two days ago but then I thought what would be the point? What could I say that was positive? Not much. I think it should be back to the drawing board for your buddies at Netscape.

3. Jason, it is so sweet you're still attached to the team. Someday, we need to compare notes on working as the owner of the Netscape portal.
My Netscape was developed as an early use of what became RSS feeds back in 1998/99, so that pre dates flock and just about everything else out there that used feeds to allows modular customization of a personalized start page.

4. Jason: You don't want to go too cutting edge on these services when you have a mass audience like Netscape. They could have easily added more bells, but look at the (mini) revolt I faced when I introduced social news to the Netscape site in July! I learned my lesson, and I think the team did too... with an old-school base of users you want to give them the cutting edge stuff in phases so you have time to explain it and take feedback.
If I could do it again I would have put Netscape out as 25% of the site experience for three months, then 75%, then 100%. We did it 25% for two weeks and BANG here ya go! IT's not the worst thing in the world--I mean we did turn Netscape around--but it was shocking for some folks. Lesson learned: don't push folks in a cold pool.
6. What's the big deal? Their is nothing new here.. its the same as everything else just a different name.
Please stop attacking Digg for having a so called 'mob'. They have a VERY loyal following which is what EVERYONES goal is when creating a new website. Yes they go overboard at times but don't think you wouldn't love having people that dedicated to something you were involved in.
7. Jason, it would be nice to know your opinion of corank.com. Arrington has a not very enlightening piece on it, as so does VentureBeat - better explained if you ask me.
I can't help it but thinking that coRank's approach might have played better on the Netscape crowd than Digg's, as it stays out of the 'wisdom of crowds' theme - like I don't use the new Netscape but should have it been like CoRank I think I would have become a loyal user.
Then again, the Netscape crowd is more about getting everything "by default" something coRank doesn't do and that might be what ultimately keep it under the rug along with every other 'clone'.
