1. Well, AdSense video ads'll be standard by Q2 at the latest, so Google wrapping video units into search could certainly happen :)

2. A logical progression but the mockup is a best-case scenario. Perhaps give user's the ability to rate the ads so that only relevant (and discreet) ads appear.

Screening ads by search is a good way for google to enter the video ad business but it'll be interesting to see how they monetize Google Video (YouTube is for small clips, it's not built for video ads).

Are we going to get any hints on what your next venture is?

3. Video ads appear to be COUNTER TO the strategy of Google's main page in that Flash video takes a long time (longer time) to load. When I visited websites that tested flash video ads with a machine running Windows 98 and a dail-up connection, the sites either didn't load or the browser crashed.

A video ad upon request would be a better idea. For example, you see the text ad and it has a "CLICK HERE FOR VIDEO" link.

4. Just got an email this morning from Google AdSense this morning. They let us know we'd made it to a special program where they recommed/place larger brands on sites (yeah). More importantly, they encouraged us to replace some of our ad sizes with the 300x250 medium rectangle ad unit, as they expected the brand advertisers to use this more for video ads in the future. In essence, they are encouraging their partners to get ready to take more video ads. Who knows, maybe the wide screen video ad will be next...

5. If Google becomes more aggressive they will essentially become Yahoo, and fall out of love with the tech scene. We all loved Google's products because they were effective and fit well with the geek aesthetic image of how the web should work.

If Google changes their gameplan to appease the shareholders they will lose the next hardcore nerd generation, but that will be after the current round of Google employees move off to better things. Public companies really are no good for innovation or quality.
