Mahalo
After a couple of months of trying, I was finally able to buy the domain mahalo.com.
Now I just have to figure out what to do with it. :-)

3. Hmm, Jason leaves AOL and shortly thereafter brags about the excellent domain he just bought?. I second Paul.

5. When I heard that Iran's president Ahmadinejad was keeping a blog (www.ahmadinejad.com and www.ahmadinejad.ir), the first thing I did was check if ahmadineblog.com and ahmadineblog.org were taken. They weren't, so over to Go Daddy I went. Now I'm in the same position -- this is political gold, but what to do with it? It could be a spoof site of his site, it could be sold to Iran, it could be sold to Israel as a watchdog site... hmm...

7. Mahalo.com to me seems like such a great place to have a Do No Evil blog. By far my favorite thing about Netscape.com is the Do No Evil channel, and there should be more sites (with better support) out there like HappyNews.com; why not Mahalo, why not say thank you to those who are out there making good things happen by writing about them on a Jason Calacanis Property? Free ads for GoDaddy and PodTech, of course, and all actual profit from the site goes to help fund more scholarships.

8. When I say "Mahalo" out loud, and really pronounce the second "a" (cause I really have no idea *how* to pronounce it), I get the feeling like I'm saying "hello" to someone. In that respect, I'd say go along the lines of something cheerful/pleasing. Hah, that's pretty ambiguous. So here are some stabs in the dark:
* send out greeting/thank you (gift?) cards
* a web messenger of some sort (yeah, copy of meebo, I know)
* as mentioned, a "pay it forward" service
* a service that takes in donations and contributes to different charities.
Obviously some of these ideas lack a business model, but I'm sure you've got the moula to figure something neat out.

9. Aloha from Hawaii,
Hopefully something good with the name. I just launched my blog network, Blogtown Press from it's headquarters in Hawaii with a contest called the "Link to a Coconut Contest."
You can win a coconut straight from hawaii, with all the stamps right on it if you link to the right post or posts in the network. That would be a great site name for my contest winners to share their coconut stories and pictures from, you know if you need ideas :)
Aloha,
Erik
10. a video site allowing people to submit a "thank you" to anyone that has ever touched them, helped them, or deserved a thank you that they might not have been able to deliver themselves.

11. Congrats and good luck on your departure, Jason...
As someone who also adores Hawaii, both the place and its culture, I just wanted to point out that mahalo also means "you're welcome" (just like how aloho means hello and goodbye). There's something really cool about that, especially with the awkwardness exchanging thank yous. I was just reading a Scott Ginsberg post today about how he prefers "my pleasure" to "you're welcome", and remembered how much easier "mahalo" just rolls off the tongue from both sides of ABC store counter.

1. not that you'd actually go with it, but....
I suggest creating a "confessions" style site, where people can anonymously thank people for things. Say the guy who let you in on the freeway, or little things where you can't tell the person but you just need to say thanks.
of course it'd need to be submission style with an editorial process to have the best ones...
or ... you could start a hawaiian travel agency that actually has good service and means it when they say "thank you"
