(Page 1 of 1)2. franky: About the only thing that Apple might have some kind of legitimate problem with, would be the design of the .info domain. I don't understand what you mean by "have no chance".
Apple does not own podcasting, though they have profited from it. You say that since the domain was purchased after this news became public, they're going to shut the site down?
That's just a little ironic, since Apple is trying to trademark the term after it became popular and widely used in September, 2004. They didn't try filing their initial trademark application for a full year, having it "shot down" multiple times, since.
The fact is, they "don't" own podcasting! Not the word, the content, the mechanism...nothing!

3. Whoever is settingup the .info domain there should change the design, which they have ripped off from Apple.
Though I understand the sentiment, I just don't think it adds any weight to our justified argument. In fact I would go as far to say that it damages it.
I also registered there - yet when I log in it says my account is blocked. Have I just signed up to a world of spam?
I (am)build(ing) the podcast.com site and I beginning to wonder if we should change the word podcast. Adopt a new one. I was never that comfortable with the word until it went into the dictionary as word of the year, last year.
To me p.o.d stands for 'portable on demand'
Maybe we should drop the 'cast' bit too? (from the word broadcast)
We need an idea/mood board/cloud up somewhere so we can throw up some words which are more meaningful and totally unprotected/'pwned'.
Though, I do think Apple will lose in the long run.
My 2c
4. The problem with using Audiocast is that it too is trademark. Years ago I was a shareholder in Audiocast.net and it was trademarked.

5. Kosso: I took your advice and changed the design of the site. You made a great point about it being more damaging than helpful.
I'm not sure why it says your account is "blocked". I've signed up a few "test users" and they worked fine. I reset your account and emailed you the info.
Don't worry! You (or anybody else) won't get any spam from the site. Account creation is just used to control who has access to posting content on the site and in the forum.

1. Although I DO agree with what you said/wrote about Apple in this case, the advice was pretty immature Jason. Those 2 new sites legally have no chance if could be proven that they were started after your post, or after it became public (the wired.com and news.com post) that Apple actively wants to defend their trademart. Even the date of purchase could be enough to shut them down in that case.
Personally I even think that the whole case has brought up better alternatives like audiocast and videocast.
Give Apple their podcast and lets finally move on. iPod is not the World. ;-)
And why did Apple actually never trademart any combination with a small i followed by a word starting with a capital? Like Peugeot did with the 0 inbetween 2 other numbers? That at least would have been an intelligent trademart.
