more travel........
Eating a horrible salad.
Tired... two flights down, two more flights to go.
Two speaking gigs down, one more to go.
No time for the gym so I'm trying to walk for 20-30 minutes inside the airport before getting ready for the loooooooong flight (four hours) to Dallas.
Wish I was at the Clinton Global Conference in New York with the Netscape team (or home).
Note: Cingular's built in EVDO in Sony laptops sucks. It's slow and hangs. Verizon EVDO is much, much better.

4. Ditto on what Jon Gale said. EVDO is provided by CDMA markets while UMTS/HSDPA is provided by GSM markets.
Personally though, I'd like DoCoMo's 4G technology better that they've been testing.
EVDO is going to get better also. EVDO rev.A is currently being tested in CDMA markets and will be rolled out commercially soon, depending on your carrier.
5. In my experience, EDGE is about 120 Kbps.
By comparison, I regularly get 600-900 Kbps from Verizon EVDO, and I've seen people get close to 1.6 Mbps.
EDGE is NOT 3G, no matter how they market it. :-)

7. LoL What are you talking about? 4 hours flying time is long for you? I allways have a trip from Hungary (Budapest - BUD Airport) to my seccod home USA/FL/Daytona. My trip is the LOOOOONG not yours ;) My average flying time is 13-14 hours without any gym and that's the power. The all American say:

1. Cingular doesn't offer EV-DO, that's a different network technology. They offer EDGE (mostly) nationwide and 3G UMTS/HSDPA in select markets. I believe the Sony laptop is EDGE, which is significantly slower than EV-DO.
HSDPA is essentially comparable speedwise, but isn't nearly as widely deployed as EV-DO (either Verizon Wireless or Sprint Nextel).
