Sushi bet: digg will compensate users this year.
Since Kevin took down his post I'm now sure of it.
Note: sushi dinner/lunch is limited to NY or LA.

(Page 1 of 1)2. You did say AOL might be interested in buying digg. So maybe thats why Kevin took the post down. just my 2 cents

3. Won't happen. The only threat to digg is, maybe, Netscape and that's not even much of one yet.
On top of which, the future of it's competition (Netscape/AOL) remains unclear as Time Warner may be willing to dump it.

4. I do find it really weird that he took that particular article down. Sometimes you can say a hell of a lot by saying nothing (or you know, by trying to take it back).

7. Wow, this whole situation seems more and more like a soap opera with each passing day. I agree that Digg will probably end up paying contributors "in some form" sometime soon, so I guess there's really no bet to take!

10. Paying users would mesh quite well with the hypocrisy that we have already seen from the Digg camp. I only say that because they have been so adamantly against paid users thus far. But yeah, I think it will happen.

11. I keep saying so, in every forum I can, we won't do this. Bet anything you like. Why dwell on this topic?

12. Its a logical move, and I feel that not only Digg but even other popular social bookmarking and content aggregating sites will start compensating their top users.
Competition to retain 'cool-hunters' in this space is heating up.

16. I'll take up the bet. ;)
Keep in mind that KRo has gone on record at the Future of Web Apps Summit:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2006/09/13/digg_web_2_0_kevin_rose/
Ahem:
In response to questions over the introduction of abuse controls on Digg - after it emerged a hardcore of frequent contributors had been helping to rig Diggs rankings - Rose said it was important to keep access equal and level. This, naturally, ruled out paying Diggers. "It's important to us there's no outside motivations for submitting content to the site," he said. "We don't want to discourage the people who aren't getting paid from submitting quality content."
Cheers

1. if you shorten the time period to something slightly more reasonable (maybe 6-8 months) reasonable, i would take that bet.
