Direct TV HD: NOT ThisNext just yet...
It just doesn't have the amount of programming it should for the prices they are charging for the hardware and subscriptions. If you love tech stuff and want to show off go for it, but if you're looking to get value I'd say wait another six months when (I hear) there will be much more content available.

I wonder what HDBeat thinks?

(Page 6 of 6)102. We have been with Direct Tv since 2001. I have been pretty happy with them. We have had various equipment changes over the years. Our initial equipment was leased, but I bought all the replacement receivers via Best Buy or Costco. Last year I purchased a new receiver after the old one stopped recording on the second channel. Today I called to find out what the $4.99 fee for an additional receiver was. I was told by a very defensive and angry Customer Service rep that it was for the lease of my receiver. I explained that it had to be a mistake. I purchased the receiver, with no "deals" from Best Buy. He explained that all their equipment that is sold at retail outlets (as of March 2006) is really leased. ?????? I looked at my Best Buy receipt and I couldn't find that anywhere. He also informed me that my contract was up in May of 2009. I was a bit perplexed because I didn't sign up for either of those options. Jimmy, the CS rep that finally faked a sneeze, swore at me and hung up as I, still bewildered ask more questions, initially explained that this is all on their website for me to view. I expressed I don't go to their web site. He expressed that it is my problem that I don't do that. WHAT?????? It is my opinion that they feel that $5/ month isn't going to make anyone question the bill. Well question it. I am desperately trying to get a class action suit started. I know my $5/month joined with every other customer's $5/ month and all the cancellation fees because people didn't realize that they were "buying" "leased" equipment and adding to their contract will add up to a $$$ that will get an attorney's attention.

103. same story different day I guess. My husband (who's name is NOT on my account) got a new tv in Jan. Called DTV to get HD they came out to hook it up. They never told either one of us that we would be extending the contract for another 2 years. The HD doesn't even work half the time. Everytime it rains my reception goes to shit. They want me to pay $340.00 to get out of my contract. That is ridiculous. Totally unfair.

101. My Lawyer just sent the papers to be served on Monday!!! I am doing this for all of you that have been wrongfully treated. Small claims is very simple and cheap. And I am not sure where you are from, but in the State of Texas if a contract is for more than one year they MUST have a signature on it! Case Closed!
